The same problem continues day after day in this Sliema street.
Residents have already reported the situation several times to ERA, Sliema Local Council and the Malta Tourism Authority, yet rubbish bags continue to be placed outside on the wrong collection days.
According to the information currently visible on the MTA’s public accommodation register, there appears to be only one registered short-let in this particular street, located at the property with the green door shown in the photo.
This property has repeatedly been observed putting rubbish outside on days when there is no collection.
What makes the situation even stranger is that the bags later appear to end up around the Triq Rodolfu / Triq San Alfonsu corner, effectively moving the problem from one part of the neighbourhood to another rather than solving it.
This raises a few obvious questions:
- If complaints have already been made repeatedly, why is the problem continuing?
- Are short-let operators being properly informed and monitored regarding Malta’s waste collection rules?
- If only one licensed short-let appears on the MTA register for this street, are there other properties operating as tourist accommodation without being shown on the public register?
- And why does rubbish apparently end up being moved to another nearby street instead of being dealt with correctly?
Residents should not have to report the same properties and the same rubbish problem every single week.
ERA, the Sliema Local Council and MTA need to coordinate enforcement rather than allowing the issue to simply move from one street corner to another.
